WHAT IS SCULPTRA® ?

Sculptra® is a product specially developed to help the body to "fill-in" the lines, wrinkles and depressions which develop naturally over the years. Sculptra's active ingredient is a poly-L-lactic acid, which helps to stimulate the body's own production of collagen within the line or wrinkle, making the skin appear smoother and firmer. Sculptra® is a gel-like substance made of poly-L-lactic acid. Dr. Aguilar will inject this filler underneath your skin to provide a fuller or smoother appearance. Poly-L-lactic acid is absorbed into your body during the days following treatment and encourages increased collagen production. Collagen offers support and strength to the skin, creating a more youthful and healthy appearance.

Sculptra® is a a discreet approach which allows a gradual effect to occur. Usually 2 or 3 treatments are required and natural-looking effects should become noticeable after approximately 6 weeks. Sculptra® generally lasts between 12-36 months and is commonly used for facial contouring/volumising to increase volume to the cheek and jowl area.

WHAT IS COLLAGEN?

Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps maintain your skin’s shape and structure. The skin needs collagen to resist signs of ageing, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging. By age 40, most of us have lost up to 20% of our natural collagen.

Sculptra helps stimulate natural collagen production. The poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) in Sculptra® forms a framework that helps support and maintain the skin’s inner structure, which may lead to a more youthful-looking appearance.

HOW DOES SCULPTRA® WORK?

Sculptra® works by stimulating the bodies own production of collagen to replenish your skin, which can help to provide more natural and longer lasting results. Sculptra® works over time, each session builds on the last to produce a more natural looking appearance that doesn't look like you've had work done.

DOES SCULPTRA® INJECTION HURTS?

As with all injections you may feel some pain and discomfort. You may also notice a brief sensation at the injection site. Local anaesthetic and cooling may be given in some instances to increase your comfort.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Most clinical study participants saw results as soon as 1 month, with sustained results for up to 2 years saw results as soon as 1 month, with sustained results for up to 2 years.

HOW MANY SCULPTRA® TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

Treatment regimen is typically 3 injections over the course of 3 or 4 months. Individual results and treatment sessions may vary. Clinical trial ended at 2 years.

ARE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

The most common side effects with the use of Sculptra® include bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising or swelling at the site of injection. These side effects generally resolve in 2-6 days. One possible delayed side effect with Sculptra® can be small bumps under the skin in the treated area. They won't be visible but you may notice them only when you press in the treated area. Occassionally, these bumps can go away on their own. As with all procedures that involve an injection through the skin, there is a risk of infection.
