The ageing process is well known to us all: the skin wrinkles, sagging appears, our eyes begin to sink,  the face loses  contours and volume, muscles atrophy occurs and in some areas of our body unwanted fat accumulation occurs.

 

When performed correctly, Aesthetic Medicine involves understanding the process of ageing and the changes that the body & face suffer as a consequence of time, exposure to the sun, etc.

Our skin has a thickness of about 2 mm at the age of 20. The 2 uppermost mm correspond to the epidermis and dermis forming an impermeable layer to prevent water entry or loss. Underneath this layer is the hypodermis or subcutaneous tissue. This is a layer of connective and fatty tisue, rich in collagen fibers and adipocytes, forming our " thermal and mechanical insulation".

 

At the age of 90 years our skin has lost three quarters of its thickness and 90% of the collagen. So it wrinkles,falls and folds. Understanding the changes that the skin undergoes with age , allows us to correct depletion and prevent changes to mantain our tissues in the best possible conditions.
