Post-Acne Scar Reduction refers to a range of Medical Aesthetic Therapies designed to improve the appearance of acne scars, such as Microneedling, Mesotherapy, Chemical peels, or combinations thereof. These treatments stimulate collagen production, resurface the skin, and reduce the depth or visibility of scars.

Acne can be mild, moderate or severe.

Mild acne :

Patients with mild acne have blackheads or whiteheads normally cause by clogged pores in the skin, in most of the cases, the light red or brown marks left behind by healed acne clear up over time on their own.

Moderate acne:

Patients with moderate acne will have noticeably more pimples and more inflammation to causing red bumps and pus-filled pimples.

Severe acne:

Patients with severe acne, especially cystic acne, are likely to have a lot of red bumps and pus-filled pimples, and in some cases larger nodules that are redder and more painful. Severe acne is likely to leave permanent scarring as it heals.

Permanent scarring is more likely to develop if you pick at or squeeze your acne instead of treating it or allowing it to heal. Any type of acne spot can lead to scarring, although scarring is more common when acne is moderate or severe. Post-inflammatory colour changes occur due to the inflammation associated with acne.

Types of acne scars can be classified as atrophic or hypertrophic as pigment changes. The most common type of acne scars are:

• Ice-pick acne scarring - represent 70% of atrophic type of acne scars. They appear as small, sharp indentation that are wider at the skin's surface and narrow into a point as they reach down into the skin. More common in areas where the skin is thinner such as upper cheeks or forehead.

• Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation acne scarring - brown marks on the skin which occur after erythema.

• Post inflammatory erythema acne scarring - pink or purple marks on the skin from previous breakouts

Chemical peelings allow us to induce the formation of new skin and to improve the appearance of skin by stimulating new tissue and removing all dead skin cells. Chemical peels are, normally an acid, are applied to prepare the skin to eliminate surface layers of dead and hyperpigmented skin. There are different kinds of chemical peels such as Salicylic Acid, Glycolic, TCA, etc, each suiting different needs and age groups.

Peelings are available to treat acne, hyperpigmentation, to rejuvenate the skin, to improve the hydration, to give a fresher look and for healthier skin.

Most patients require multiple sessions, typically 2 or more, to see meaningful improvement. The number depends on scar severity, skin response, and the specific treatment used (microneedling, peeling, mesotherapy, etc.).

Discomfort is generally mild. Topical numbing and careful technique are used to minimise pain during procedures like microneedling or injections. Some redness or tingling during treatment is common but usually tolerable.

After treatment, you can expect temporary redness, swelling, or slight sensitivity in treated areas. Some peeling or flaking may develop, depending on the method used. Most effects settle within a few days, and you can resume daily activities with proper aftercare.

You may see subtle changes in texture and tone within a few weeks. Real improvement in scar depth and skin smoothness typically becomes more noticeable over several months as collagen regenerates.

Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or mild irritation. More serious complications (such as pigment changes or infection) are rare when treatments are performed by a qualified medical professional.
