Individuals in good health with localized, small to moderate fat deposits who are not looking for overall weight loss but for contouring specific areas. Health and skin condition are assessed during your consultation with Dr Aguilar.

A minimum of 2 treatments are required and typically, 2-3 sessions is sufficient. However, depending on the amount of fat to be removed and the patient response to treatment it can take more than 3 sessions. A free consultation is required to discuss your suitability and, if you are a good candidate, Dr Aguilar will advise how many sessions she believes you need, however this can change depending on how your body responds to the treatment.

Some reduction in fat becomes visible after a few weeks, commonly after 4–6 weeks. Swelling may disguise final contour changes temporarily. Full results are likely to require multiple sessions.

After your free consultation and marking of the treatment area, Aqualyx® solution mixed with anesthetic is injected into fat deposits. Afterwards, massage of the area is done in clinic and also advised at home to help distribute product evenly and improve results.

After injections, you may have swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness in the treated area. Following treatment, Dr Aguilar will massage the treatment areas and you will have to continue this massage at home for several days after your treatment. Swelling usually lasts several days, and tenderness for a few days. Most people can return to normal activities soon, though facial swelling can be more noticeable. ​

You will experience swelling and tenderness in the treated area and there may be some temporary bruising. The area injected will feel tender for 3-5 days and appear swollen for 7-10 days. This timescale varies between patients.Patients typically experience minimal side effects when compared to more invasive procedures, such as liposuction. It is advisable to consider what social engagements or work commitments you have following treatment as the swelling may initially be quite pronounced. To date, no major side effects of Aqualyx® use have been reported to the manufacturer.​

Pain is generally mild. Local anesthetic is used to reduce discomfort during and after injections. Most patients tolerate the procedure well.

This treatment offers permanent results and, once the desired result has been obtained, there is no need to repeat treatment. To ensure that desired results are maintained and for general health reasons, patients are advised to eat healthily and maintain weight following treatment. ​

- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.

- You have been diagnosed with lipodystrophy.

- You are immunocompromised for any reason, including type 1 diabetes.

Aqualyx® contains deoxycholic acid. The fat dissolving effect locks on to the fat cell walls and starts to operate, resulting in the cell wall becoming unstable and releasing the fatty acid that is stored within. Cell residue is removed by the body’s defences and the non attached fatty acids are metabolized and converted into energy.

During the consultation, Dr Aguilar will explain the procedure, expectations, after care and any possible complications. Prior to injection, the area to be treated is marked out. The Aqualyx® solution is mixed with lidocaine (an anaesthetic) before injection for your comfort.
