PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is a non-surgical procedure that is involves injecting your own platelet-rich plasma into your skin, to naturally encourage the growth factors in your blood to stimulate and improve the quality of the skin. The treatment is safe and gives reliable results, with a quick recovery period and no downtime. You can have the PRP treatment on its own, or in combination with other skin treatments.

PRP therapy is a three-step process:

• Blood is drawn (between 10-30 ml), usually from your arm.

• The blood is processed using a centrifuge for about 10 mins to separate into three layers (platelet poor plasma, platelet rich plasma, red blood cells).

• PRP is injected into the skin.

This procedure takes around 30 min. The procedure involves taking blood from the patient exactly the same way that blood is taken for a standard blood test. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the cells, plasma and platelets. Then the plasma is injected into the skin. Immediately after the procedure the area may be slightly swollen, you may feel a "tingling" sensation, maybe some redness and some patients can experience mild bruising. These symptoms will subside over the following 24 hours.

PRP improves blood supply and growth factors to tissue, which are important in anti ageing therapies. Unlike dermal fillers or chemical treatments, PRP doesn’t add volume or use synthetic substances. Instead, Platelet Rich Plasma works with your body’s natural healing processes to rejuvenate skin from within. It can often be combined with other therapies to enhance results.

A PRP treatment appointment typically takes about 30 minutes, including preparation, blood draw, processing, and injection. The exact time depends on the area(s) treated.

Discomfort is minimal. You may feel a mild prick during the blood draw and slight stinging or pressure during injection. Topical numbing may be used to enhance comfort. Many patients find the procedure very tolerable.

Immediately after treatment, you may experience mild redness, swelling, or some pinpoint bleeding at the injection sites. These effects usually resolve within 24 to 48 hours. You can generally return to your normal routine soon after.

Your skin texture will improve as new tissue cells grow with results visible in 3-6 weeks. The results continue to improve over time and last approximately 1 year. Best results are obtained after 1 to 3 consecutive treatments. The skin will be smoother, firmer and revitalised. The results also depend on the patient's health, age, diet, smoking, as well as other health factors including your unique skin type.

A typical PRP course involves 2–3 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Maintenance sessions may be recommended every 6–12 months, depending on your skin’s response and aging factors.

PRP is considered very safe since it uses your own blood. Common, temporary side effects include mild swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness at injection sites. Serious complications are rare, particularly when performed by a skilled professional like Dr. Aguilar.
